What’s that buzz I can hear all around me, no it’s not a swam of wasps about to sting me in the summer sun, it’s the buzz of excitement coming from everyone around – But why I hear you ask?…
Ladies and gentlemen I am extremely proud and excited to announce the Nokia N96 will be released and ready to buy very soon. Since the Nokia N96 arrived on our Coming Soon page, the interest has been immense. I have never seen such great attention and anticipation surrounding a mobile phone that is yet to hit the high street. The question is will it live up to all that is expected and is it really capable of taking mobile phone communication to the next level? Well this is the review for you! Make up your own mind, but I must say my name is down to bag one of these beauties in October, it looks set to be a technological masterpiece for the 21st century. Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Samsung and all you other manufacturers beware Nokia means business!
‘Most advanced multimedia computer optimized for entertainment’
What’s the Nokia N96 all about…
With the dual-slide Nokia N96 being so well equipped it’s difficult to know where to start……being called ‘a multimedia computer’ truly optimized for video and TV, is a great starting point it’s enough to get me interested. You are able to view top-quality videos and your favourite TV programmes on the large 2.8” display screen. Plus with 16GB of internal memory, yes that’s ALL built-in into the small, slim-line 103 x 55 x 18mm frame, you’ll have plenty of room to store all your multimedia files. The Nokia N96 will not disappoint.
“Through the power of the Internet, video and TV are becoming even more prevalent in people’s lives. With its large, bright screen, and a range of high-speed connectivity options and the enhanced Nokia Video Center, the new Nokia N96 is a personal window to entertainment.”
Says Jonas Guest, who oversees Nokia’s Explore category.
Nokia N96 and the internet…
Mobile phones are advancing at the speed of light, meaning we don’t need individual laptops, cameras or MP3 players. The Nokia N96 is a perfect example of this – accessing the internet has never been so quick and simple. So what can you do? Well with the Nokia N96 supporting video formats including Windows Media Video, MPEG-4 and Flash Video, you can make your favourite videos easy to view. And what’s even better is you can download them at high-speeds with built-in WLAN and HSDPA support or use the USB 2.0 connection.

The Nokia N96 boasts a 5.0-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, flash and video light. Dedicated picture keys allow for spontaneous moments to be captured. Like many of the other Nokia N-Series range, they are designed to give a greater control over your images. Once you have took your picture on with the Nokia N96 5.0-megapixel camera you can share it with friends and family, print or view your images in your device’s gallery. The Nokia N96 has an impressive 2.8” display screen this means viewing your pictures has never been so easy and clear. So you’ve took a great quality picture, now what do you do, PRINT IT or Flickr IT. You can connect your Nokia N96 directly to any compatible printers using PictBridge or even use the built-in Bluetooth technology and Wireless LAN connectivity by transferring images to compatible printers. If printing pictures isn’t your thing or you want fast-sharing facilities, you can instantly do this with Flickr, this is the best online photo management and sharing application out and you can do all this from your Nokia N96.
Nokia N96 Video…
The Nokia N96 has a secondary built-in camera at the front of the phone which allows you to video call friends and family. This is can be very amusing, great if you’re away from home and can also be used for video conferencing. Use the Nokia N96 for recording videos, yes that’s right, it has a built-in video camera with great features including a stabilizer which means no more dodge looking video recording, only the best for Nokia N96 owners. Once you have recorded your video why not edit it and share with family and friends, whatever you want the Nokia N96 can do!
Nokia N96 Music…
As you have seen so far the Nokia N96 is jam-packed full of multimedia features, but wait….there’s more! If music be your love the Nokia N96 will supply all that is needed. Navigate and play your music with no hassle. There are many elements that make up a good music player in a mobile and Nokia have got it! With text search and speed scrolling you can browse long list of songs to find your track faster. Depending on your taste and mood you can create playlist and edit them. Like with any great music device you can customise equaliser settings, shuffle and repeat tracks, or use audio effects like balance, loudness and stereo widening. Listen to the built-in FM radio for the latest music and set the best and latest ringtones with the choice of Polyphonic, Monophonic, MP3, and True Tones or Downloadable ringtones.
Impressed…we haven’t finished yet…
With all these high-class technological features you’re going to need a good battery. Well Nokia have thought of everything. With up to 5 hours of video playback (offline mode), up to 14 hours of music playback (offline mode) and up to 4 hours of TV playback, you’ll be amused for hours. Offline mode is great, these allows you to turn your phone off from calls and text messages, but is still useable for entertaining you – this is great your traveling somewhere by plane, you can use offline mode while your flying! Plus you can get RSS feeds set up and also use Podcast via your Nokia N96. If games be your thing Java gaming makes your whole experience that much better.
The dual-slide, multimedia monster that we call the Nokia N96 represents an exciting new chapter in mobile media!
The Nokia N96 Vs Nokia N95 8GB
The Nokia N96 is the younger brother to the Nokia N95 8GB, it is leaner and meaner than its sibling. What we have to realise is Nokia are very clever, the people there know the things they do best and therefore Nokia steam ahead in making these things better and better every year.
The Nokia N95 8GB is a great mobile phone and has been on our streets since March 2007, yet still continues to sell like ‘hot-cakes’, everyday!
The 5.0-megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss Lens helps advance your photography into a new level, helped along by the built-in digital zoom and flash, all combined to making high-quality images just for you.
The 8GB of internal memory makes this great for multimedia lovers and DVD-like quality videos help to.
Accompanied with Wi-Fi technology and a built-in GPS receiver for Nokia maps, you’ll never be lost, but WHY you would mind if you had this baby to keep you busy.
The comparison between these two great masterpieces can’t be made until we have looked at the features of the Nokia N96.
So how does the Nokia N96 compare, well it’s a handset with so many ground breaking features, but yet it is so very easy to use, making it a very popular phone to all you guys and girls.
The Nokia N96 is equipped with an astonishing collection of multimedia features including a 5.0-megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss Lens, digital zoom and flash all combined to making high-quality images.
Built-in GPS accompanied with Nokia maps again means you’ll never get lost and Wi-Fi helps for super fast internet speeds. Plus the latest feature includes a GPS receiver – this enables you to locate whoever had the phone, anytime and anywhere. You can store all your multimedia files with the impressive 16GB of built-in memory, twice that of the Nokia N95 black. Music features include a built-in FM radio and a top-notch music player, TV out and much, much more.
Who wins that is the question?…The Nokia N96 comes with a 5.0-megapixel camera equipped with a Carl Zeiss Lens, like that of the Nokia N95, but this time it has some slight software updates.
We were all impressed with the N95’s 8GB of internal memory well, things just got a whole lot better, the Nokia N96 comes with a massive 16GB of internal memory (this is the largest to current date) – which will go down a treat for all you multimedia monsters, there really is not stopping you now! But don’t forget this endless memory doesn’t stop there just like that of the N95 you can expand on this with a Micro SD card that will go up to 8GB of memory. If you add this to your phone your looking at being able to store….60 hours of video compared with the N95’s 40 hours. The music features in the Nokia N96 have all been upgraded including the FM radio with RDS and the best-out built-in MP3 Player.
As for size, we know how important it really is, the Nokia N96 dimensions are 103 x 55 x 18mm and only weighs 125 grams. Although the Nokia N96 is slimmer, both mobiles weigh very similar.
I think it’s fair to say the Nokia N96 is a clear winner, with its huge memory, latest multimedia features and sleek, sophisticated look, you really will be making a lasting impression with one of these in your hand.

When it comes to selecting from a candy bar, slider or clamshell with regards to my preferred choice of mobile phone style, my vote always seems to go to the clamshell. I mention this purely as a lead to this review of the Sony Ericsson Z610i phone which is of the clamshell variety.
Tastefully decked out in lustre black (giving a reflective sheen to the front of the phone – useful if you want to see who is approaching from behind) with matt silver trimmings, I certainly found this model more appealing than some I have looked at recently. Flicking the device open reveals a well set-out keypad with large easy to use alphanumeric keys plus function controls that stand out from the rest. You also get quick action keys to launch the Internet aspect, camera and activity menu and an on/off key. The location of this latter item ensures that there is no likelihood of the phone being accidentally switched on/off when being bounced around in a pocket or bag. When in use the various keys benefit from a backlight.
The phone has a 176 x 220 pixel, 262, 000 colour display screen that copes well with its various tasks. It is clearly visible from a range of angles in different lighting conditions as you navigate through the menu items; capture and edit images using the 2 mega-pixel camera and built-in software; plus indulge in video calls using the unit’s second camera with VGA resolution.
Having just mentioned the 2 mega-pixel camera, it is the opportune moment to concentrate on that element of Z610i. The camera gives you a choice of 2MP, 1MP or VGA (640 x 480) resolution with a range of capture modes that include normal, panorama and burst. A self-timer is available, as is a night setting, but you have to make do without a flash. Basic editing can be carried out and this includes embellishing images with clip art before sending it to others or posting it on your blog. While captured images will not win any prizes, they are of a reasonable quality. As mentioned earlier, video calls use a VGA camera positioned just above the screen so you can see and be seen with others having a phone with similar capabilities.
This Sony Ericsson phone boasts a file manager that allows you to select individual or groups of images for copying or moving. You can store up to 1,000 contacts, each with 28 fields that can include a picture, ring tone and street address. For in-coming calls, you can be alerted by 72-voice polyphony melodies and record them depending upon available memory (including the supplied 64MB memory card). The usual range of calendar features is included with this model.
Clique Hue HD Webcam in Six Cheery Colors
The Clique Hue HD webcam is not only gussied up in six lovely colors, it can snag HD-like 1280×1024 video at 10fps, or 1024×768 at 30fps. If you want to take it with you, you can detach it from its base and plug it directly into your laptop’s USB port. It’s also got a one-touch snapshot function to grab all the homemade porn stills you can possibly handle.
Would like to see how well its face-tracking technology works—with webcams in the past that’s been more of a spec list enticement than a usable tool. It also has noise reduction technology, but we’re just wondering how well it can white balance, which has also been a problem with webcams we’ve tested. After a $20 introductory discount, it’s $79.99.
Laptop
Light, compact, feature-packed with a dash of colour – this is the checklist you’d want to follow when buying a lappie for your wife. Sony Vaio’s CR series instantly comes to mind. Flashy colours, including red, blue and pink, excellent features, this notebook is sure to set her heart racing. Another one is Dell Inspiron 1520, again a colourful collection. We are not suggesting that she’ll only want pretty looking machines, but getting her one of them is complimenting her intelligence as well as her style.
Can you believe its August already? That means back to school time is on the horizon for many. So what better gadget to buy for your college bound student than the Sony Bravia 19″ 720P LCD. It sports a great youthful and somewhat retro design that is perfect for any dorm. The best part is it comes in white with a selection of different color accents: pink, green, orange, and blue. It features built in 5W speakers, 1 HDMI, 1 S-video, 1 PC (that means you can use it as a computer monitor as well), 2 Composite, 1 Component Video, V-chip control, and 4 analog audio inputs. Overall it looks like a great LCD for gaming or watching Gossip Girl… The Sony – BRAVIA 19″ 720p Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD HDTV retails for $499.99.
Can you believe it? Six years ago today, Apple introduced the first generation (5G) iPod. With a hard disk drive, mechanical scroll wheel and a FireWire port, the device was unlike any other mp3 player on the market at that time. Over the years we’ve watched the revolutionary iPod evolve into many shapes and forms. From the iPod classic and the shuffle to the Nano and now the iPod touch, it’s no wonder why the iPod was voted the greatest gadget of all time! In honor of the iPod’s anniversary, it’d be great if you could leave a comment telling us what you love about this wonderful piece of technology.
